Poker history was made the week of March 10-17, 2002 in the first PartyPoker.com Million tournament when Kathy Liebert became the first woman in poker history to win $1,000,000. This tournament also marked several other important milestones: It was the first Hold'em tournament to offer a first prize of $1,000,000; it was the first to combine online qualifiers with offline buy-ins; and it was the first to host the finals aboard a week-long cruise.

One hundred players qualified online (for only $22), while 39 bought their way in for $8,000 each.

The final came down to superstar and former World Champion, Phil Hellmuth, poker veteran Kathy Liebert and online qualifier Berj Kacherian (a database administrator from Los Angeles, California) playing for a cool $1,000,000.

When the cruise ship docked back in Los Angeles, CA, Kathy Liebert was $1 million richer and there was a new page in the book of poker history!
